Tax & Spending Cuts: Limited and responsible government is paramount to fostering economic growth. I am proud to have supported the House's comprehensive tax reform plan, which updated North Carolina's Depression-era tax code, cut personal and corporate income taxes, and eliminated the death tax as well as a variety of loopholes designed to benefit special interests. As a result of our efforts in the General Assembly, hardworking families throughout the State will now be able to hold on to more of their hard-earned money. Supporting a balanced, fiscally responsible budget is also key to our State's fiscal health. This year, we adopted a budget that promotes government efficiency, invests in core services, and even increases education spending. As a State, we know that we must cut taxes where we can and spend within our means. It's what we do as individuals, so we should expect nothing less from our government.

Job Creation: It's simple. We need jobs. Government must do what it can to foster job creation, not hinder it. This can come in many forms such as removing unnecessary restraints and regulations on businesses, cutting burdensome taxes, or providing reasonable incentives to attract businesses to locate in North Carolina. The 2013 Long Session produced a variety of key pieces of legislation to foster job creation, such as the Domestic Energy Jobs Act and the Tax Simplification and Reduction Act, but these legislative accomplishments represent the mere beginnings of what we can and must do to successfully grow our State's economy.

Free-Enterprise: Since the inception of this great Nation, we have clearly seen that our economy thrives best when entrepreneurs and businesses alike are given the freedom and opportunity to thrive themselves. As General Counsel for an executive recruiting firm (and as a former government affairs attorney), I know what businesses need from state government: they need statutory and regulatory programs that keep the government out of business to the greatest extent possible and allow businesses to do what they do best…business! The Regulatory Reform Act of 2013 accomplishes just this: it cuts through the red tape of our previously burdensome regulatory environment and makes our State a better place to do business. I will continue to advocate for pro-growth legislation such as the Regulatory Reform Act of 2013 and the ability of the North Carolina businessman and businesswoman to freely work to achieve the American dream.
